Eleanor Long
Glass - Winner 2007
Eleanor looks to many sources for inspiration finding natural phenomena fascinating, the everyday as well as the rare; the effect of the turn of the tide on eddies and current of the Thames, for instance. Light falling across surfaces creating shadows, intense light lines and delicate detail is a recurring theme. The manifestation of cause and effect is a central attraction for her and she enjoys the idea of form following function or force with materiality being at the centre of her practice.
Much of her work is on an architectural scale and she is very interested in developing site-specific pieces. She has completed a number of commissions including work for the Royal Geographical Society, Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum and work for various private individuals and companies in the UK.
