Phoebe Boswell

Animation - Shortlisted 2012

With a heavy base in drawing and draughtsmanship and a formal background in Fine Art, Phoebe sees herself now poised between fine art and new media. Concerned with finding a relevant architecture for telling contemporary stories she embarked in 2008 on an animation course at Central St Martins where she mixed traditional handdrawn animation with compositing, the latter process acting as an equally important creative methodology. Her final student film ‘The Girl With Stories in Her Hair’ was nominated for a number of awards including a British Animation Award in the Public Choice category. The idea of projection and creating a spatial ground for narrative to sit on is of great interest to her and she has subsequently made moving image installations for exhibitions in the Old Vic Tunnels and 500 Dollar. Phoebe has recently been commissioned to create the animation and projection for a theatre piece directed by Yasmin Gurreeboo titled ‘Les 3 Tifis’.
