Sabrina Mahfouz

Spoken Word - Shortlisted 2015

Sabrina Mahfouz’s latest work ‘Chef’ (2014) received much critical acclaim including a Fringe First Award at Edinburgh this year as well as being shortlisted for three international awards. Mahfouz’s writing is often informed by other activities she is involved in such as campaigning for equal rights for women or fair treatment of refugees in the UK. ‘Dry Ice’, a long narrative first performed by Mahfouz in 2011, was written following five years working as a waitress in various London strip clubs. The wages financed her studies including an MA in International Politics and Diplomacy while the piece received four star reviews with The Times calling it ‘a really substantial piece of writing…in a different league’.
