Puppetry - Shortlisted 2010

Michael Fowkes has an impressive CV of puppetry work for both stage and screen. His recent puppeteering accomplishments for theatre include The Winters Tale for the RSC directed by David Farr, and The Giraffe, The Pelly and Me for The Little Angel Puppet Theatre, directed by Peter O’Rourke. Penny Francis of Animations Online said: ‘I may as well put my cards on the table; this production is and will remain one of my all time favourites of puppet theatre.’

Projects for television include making and puppeteering for both series two and three of The Mighty Boosh for BB3, as well as creating characters for BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Fowkes was role designer, maker and puppeteer for The Insiders, a Channel 4 series, which was nominated for a British Interactive Media award in films and animation online. Fowkes trained as a theatre designer at Wimbledon School of Art between 1996- 1999, a skill that has complimented his puppetry, especially when designing commissions for other artists’ shows.
