Matt Golden
Sculpture - Winner 2011
Born in 1974, Matt Golden lives and works in London. He studied sculpture at The Royal College of Art and in 2008 founded The Russian Club Gallery www.therussianclubgallery.com. He is represented by Limoncello, London www.limoncellogallery.co.uk.
Golden’s sculptural practice takes a number of inter-locking forms or processes. These include the use of an invented character to explore his parameters as an artist / the staging of music performances and role-playing / collaborations / setting up and running a gallery / commissioning street-sellers / interventions in public spaces / making replicas / re-enactments.
Golden was awarded The Vordemberge-Gildewart Scholarship in 2007. In 2008 he exhibited at Museum Wiesbaden, Germany and Kyoto Art Walk, Japan with residencies at Insel Hombroich and Wohnung Felix Rehfeld, both Germany. Recent solo exhibitions include 'More Bit Parts In Little Theatres', Bischoff/Weiss, London, 'Sensitivity To The Impermanence Of Being', Art House Foundation, London, all 2011. Recent group shows include 'Young British Art', Limoncello Gallery, 2011, curated by Ryan Gander and 'Freies Material', Weltraum, Munich, Germany. In 2011 he was nominated for a Paul Hamlyn Award and was Artist-in-Residence at Kyoto Zokei University, Japan. Current exhibitions include "Keeping Up Appearances', Nassauischer Kunstverein, Wiesbaden, Germany and "Matt Golden & Richard Paul", The Russian Club Gallery, London. He has a forthcoming solo show at Limoncello in the summer, followed by a 'Vision Culture Residency', SGFA, Selangor, Malaysia.
