Amy Mae

Twenty Fifth Anniversary Awards - Shortlisted 2018

Asked about her ‘design technique’ Amy cites ‘adapting’ as a key feature as well as ‘building relationships’. Her experience of lighting Sweeney Todd at Harringtons Pie and Mash Shop in London’s Tooting, needed both skills in abundance as the venue transformed itself each night from public restaurant to a fully working theatre space. The play received rave reviews and through the persuasiveness of Stephen Sondheim, transferred to Shaftsbury Avenue. Having just won the 2015 Knight of Illumination Award for the South London show, Amy moved with the show to the West End before it was later transferred to Off Broadway, New York where she experienced the ways of American lighting teams.

Other plays that Amy has worked as a lighting designer include The Ugly One at Partk 90 Theatre, Babetters Feast at the Print Room, Start Swimming at the Young Vic and Wordsworth Theatre at By The Lake directed by Michael Oakley.

Amy was nominated by Fred Meller..
